Yes, animals in general using sand box is a concern - better plan to treat your kid(s) with Ivermectin often . . . .

There is plastic lumber that can be used for a frame - the best sand pile we had (many, many moons ago) was simple pile of sand (or other material)  that we could break down, then scrap back together and pile it again. Had more fun then a simple level sand box.
