| Way late to this reply, but here goes.
I asked this question on AGvisorPRO, got 3 expert replies in about an hour. Jason Hanson from ND Says: "If you don't have any N on, I would consider starting V4 or even a little sooner. Corn is going to use a lot of N starting V5. If the weather permits and it closes up well, would start then. Biggest demand will be V6-V12 so have it on before that. I've seen corn side dressed at V2-V10, just depends on acres needed to be covered and how well it seals up. Root issues can be something to worry about by V6-V8 so earlier there is better as well."
Brad Farrell says: "I prefer to see it applied sooner rather than later. (like before V5), especially when the risk of leaching/denitrification is low."
Rob Saik says: "You have to get on before you prune roots. Adding an N stabilizer would be good to extend the N"
