East Central, Nebraska
you seem to be relating this topic only to steering. every new jd machine has a modem in it for telemetry, most of, if not all, the reasons has nothing to do with steering. i have absolutely no doubt that machines can be easily disabled remotely. i always assumed you would see it more used in the event of non payment or theft but lots of scenarios could apply. first thing i did when i got my last new deere combine was throw the modem away when i was installing the agleader yield monitor and steering. i have no new deere tractors but my neighbors tell me that they get calls from local deere dealer asking them if they would like to make an appointment for service work they had no idea they needed. remotely disabling machinery and vehicles is a thing of reality. technically the idea has been around a lot longer in gm vehicles, onstar has been able to disable gm vehicles for a lot of years now.
