Since it is still April it is hard to say that planting is delayed, at this point. But, looking at some forecasts for the next 1-2 weeks doesn’t look too promising for a very large portion of the corn belt. The last event that could be a comparable is 2019. Looking back at charts it appears that the market really didn’t get excited until 2 weeks into May. Even then the rally was fairly short lived. The June Stocks and Acreage report was bearish and the August WASDE really put the dagger in it. On paper…..supply was large and demand was less than we are seeing now. Is this year different…..or are they all the same? I do know it takes a lot of water too spook the market. They still stick with the “rain makes grain” adage. Even though 30-50% of the USA corn crop was either PP or planted in June….it didn’t seem to matter in 2019
