Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
Time is running out for the wheat.
We’re waiting until after today to see if or how much more wheat we topdress. Our yield prediction after looking at some yesterday is nearing half what we would call an average crop. Who knows after today.
It’s just too bad. We started out with a nice stand last fall. Made it through a dry winter. Just couldn’t get any spring rains to keep it going.
We have had plenty of wind this year. Had one day at 90 degrees. Haven’t had both strong wind and heat on the same day. Forecast is 97 degrees with winds to 70. It’s going to be dangerous just to live here today. If a fire starts it would be catastrophic.
