For those of you that are uninformed-----share cropping or bushel rent is taxed by Social Security. Cash rent is not. Makes a difference for us retired folks. You aren't going to get a reduced rent when demand for land to farm by renters is at an all time high! It will take several years of reduced commodity prices for that to come down. You can always just say no to the landlord and go back to farming what you can afford instead of having to be the big BTO in the neighborhood.
