Your calf pens were 12” wide?
Each feeding stall was 12" wide. The communal calf pen was half an acre. It wasn't a bad system. I had everyone together, from newborns through weaned calves. The individual feeding stalls allowed them to drink at their own pace without having their bottle stolen by someone else. I've moved on to raising most of my heifer calves on the dam, and just letting them run loose in the milking herd. It's not all sunshine and roses, but the learning process is quite entertaining. |
