I agree using the van ONLY for her benefit is ok. I would do some searching to find out about when/if she goes to LIVE in a facility. Maybe states have different rules. I am SURE if you sell the van before she winds up full time in a nursing facility, they will get the money.
One place to start is with the auto insurance agency. Most of those people are looking out for ALL of their customers.
