| Our US postal service problems started about 6-7 years ago. Our rural mail carrier of 30+ years retired and the local guy who thought he was next in line for the route was passed over for someone else from a ways away. About the same time our local office hours was greatly reduced and everything was transferred to another office about 20 miles away. It's getting to the point that if we know that we have a check coming in, we just go get it. Same with a bill, if it has to be there on a certain date, just hand deliver it. We just had another situation this week. My wife has gotten into the habit of constantly monitoring our checking account at our bank and noticed at a local business (20 miles away) had not cashed our check (about $8,000) that we had sent Nov 10th. We called the business, they checked their books and no, our check hadn't come yet. Luckily, before we could stop payment on our first check and issue a new one, the business called back and our check had come in, 14 day s to travel 20 miles. | |
