I'd be pretty happy just having a small house and a fairly simple life. I'd rather have a bit of a reserve fund rather than lots of material possessions.. Something that would make me comfortable to easily pay for most unexpected costs such as car repairs etc etc.
Not sure why you'd feel sorry for someone though who's happy with their situation?
