Those are good questions and depending on what expert you listen to the answer varies.

My personal target is 60 to 75. Below 25 is danger of getting rickets. If I was above 100 i would back off on the supplement. One expert I listened to said target 60 ahead of winter to prevent it dropping below 40 by the end of winter. He wanted to never fall below 40.

Too bad more people didn't have this information prior to the covid outbreak.

Notice that obese people need 2 to 3 times the supplement to raise levels because vitamin D is a fat soluble hormone and is tied up in the adipose tissue.
