It’s gravel, there’s no damage you can do to it that can’t be fixed with a loader, box scraper, or the like. Worst case scenario, add a little new gravel when fixing it up.
Talk to owner. “I realize it will get roughed up for a few days. But it’s not safe to turn around on tar, we will get stuck in field…”. (Whatever is true, I am guessing). “But once done we will repair damage”.
