Subject: RE: 4408 Case IH ears building up

north central Ohio
My Dad and I think the knives aren’t aggressive enough to keep it clean of stalks at the top creating a bridge the ears have hard time getting through. Wish we had the aggressiveness of our 2208 knives and the reliability of the 4408 together. Dad looked at chalmers for the head but required quite a bit of modification. We actually took one roll off on one side of each row last year and turned it a 6th on the hex shaft which makes it intermeshing and move all knives clear out to mimic the old 2208. It definitely helped but still doesn’t like damp/wet. That 2208 could run in a pouring rain but the 4408 does butt shell less. Guess pick yoir poison.
