Subject: RE: Deere Strike and Working for Big Companies???

I spent my entire career as a mechanic working flat rate, getting paid for what you do. When I asked for a raise one day, my boss told me to work harder. If I wanted to make money, I busted my ass and found more efficient ways to do the job or short cuts to save time. In my own shop, it is the same way every day.
I have often envied guys who could take their time doing a project, making everything perfect, neat and organized, spending 20 minutes doing a 5 minute job but it is too engrained in me to hurry up and get it done. It seeps into everything I do to run at a fever pitch until the day is done.
I wonder how businesses can make money with the time wasted everyday on jobs but that is the difference between getting paid for the time you are there versus what you do.
