Subject: RE: Top dry bins

We have an 8 ring 30' Top Dry with two fans / burners. I fought different moisture for several years. Was either to wet or two dry depending on what moisture corn went in. Last year we put a Cal-Cu-Dry in it and made all the difference in the world. The CCD! Has moisture sensors like on a combine near the bottom of the drying floor. Corn doesn't drop into the storage compartment until it hit the moisture I set the CCD at no matter what the moisture it is when it goes into the TopmDry. Wasnt cheap but worth every pen ey.

As for our wet holding settup, we have a 12,500 bu hopper bin with 61° floor slope. Hopper bin has a slide gate controlled by the Top Dry controller, that drops corn into a Kvalve where corn is directed to either a 10" auger feeding the Top Dry or into a short 10" jump auger to load trucks. We save enough early season corn to fill the hopper bin when we're done drying corn. Hopper bin has 4 11/2-hp fans so we can aeriate corn in it

Our only issue is we have 1ph, so large motor we can pit on the feed auger is a 15hp. Auger is 71' long and should have a 20 or 25hp motor but to do that we would need to 3ph. Priced switching 2 years ago and was going to cost close to $50,000 to change over. Looked into phase converters but our electrician says it would take two, one for wet corn auger & one for the dry corn auger that takes dry corn from Top Dry to storage bins. Wish we would have put 3ph & a leg in when we had our system in 2013. ThHave considered replacing the wet auger with an air system where we could use 2 single phase motors to run it.

FWIW, we run ~ 275, 000 - 300,000 bu thru our Top Dry annually.
