Isn't that a bit disingenuous, since weather prediction is only accurate to about 5 days at best?

I think it is just how people think (or more accurately DON'T think). It is every where we look, predictions that are more often than not incorrect yet people still go along with them. Weather forecasts are one, political promises are another. Politicians rarely if ever do what they say they will do and yet, people STILL vote based on what a candidate SAYS they will do. Look back at all the predictions made regarding "global warming". NONE of them have been even close yet, more dire predictions are made and people STILL eat it up. Just like long range forecasts, rarely right yet people STILL plan their lives around them. People are more easily programmed that Pavlov's dog.
