If I had a son that wanted to farm I'd tell him to get the ground an not worry about the machinery. 1200 to 1000 aint that much difference to worry about. Hell 1600 to a thousand aint. If my son was the one worrying about that part of the operation, I'd be proud as hell of the way I raised him. If I as the dad was worried about it, I'd better look long and hard in the mirror. Some people cant see the forest for the trees. Your gonna get to do alot of extra things for your mom and dad someday down the road and I bet you wont get paid for it. JMO
