SC Wisconsin | For the record, not planning to build anything like this but was reading a thread on a Facebook group about a guy asking about slat vs bed pack buildings for holsteins 400 pounds and up. Someone commented that the best of both worlds would be bed pack for the area where they lie down and slats in the feed alley. Kind of peaked my interest there, seems like it would be nice to eliminate the frequent scraping of the feed alley while still giving them the comfort of a bed pack. I think bedding getting down in the pit might make it a little difficult to pump, but with a curn there that might be minimal. Would also help extend the life of the bed pack and lengthen bedding intervals because they wouldn't drag slop into the bed pack on their feet either. Sort of the best of both world's in my mind. Just wondering if anyone has a barn like that. | |
