I was selling a truck a few years ago and asked my banker about cashiers and certified checks. She told me she would trust a personal check first. The others can be forged so well it won't be caught until it goes through the system and is returned. The seller is just left holding a piece of paper. A personal check with a photocopy of their driver's license can be pursued legally. Oh, and print up a bill of sale with description, VIN and signed by both parties with date and time. Oh, as for calling the bank, good luck with that. Many banks will not even acknowledge someone has an account over the phone. Privacy laws.
