This doesn't specifically answer your question, but try to get it onto cast iron and relatively close to the starter.
I purchased a 1840 Case, and found the negative cable was attached to the skidloader frame. All starting current had to travel through the engine mounts. I replaced the negative cable and bolted it to the bellhousing instead.
