No expert but have built some street rods. Looks like an older build but done nicely. Motor has 6 bolt valve covers - 289, 302, or 351W. If it is an automatic, will be a C-4. Look at block casting number and this will identify which motor you have.

Regarding the brakes, would need to see underneath car where brake rod goes in to the master cylinder. Probably manual brakes but beeping makes me think they have electric assist that is malfunctioning or there is a turn signal related problem with the brake lights/switch most likely with a bad ground. Manual brakes ought to be more than enough for that light of a car unless the idle speed is set too high or a caliper piston is stuck. How long has the car sat undriven before you got it? Street rods that sit for very long have lots of brake caliper/wheel cylinder corrosion issues. DOT 4/5 fluid helps future corrosion but requires a complete tear down to clean them since it’s not compatible with conventional. A quick check jacking up each wheel and spinning it while a helper pushes on the brake pedal will tell you a lot in just a few minutes.

Join a T-bucket forum, there are a couple good ones out there. Speedway Parts has everything you need to build one from the ground up and are really good about helping you identify which parts you have to fix it.
