It is definitely a WL-40. I have an identical loader. Purchased in 1975. The WL-42's are different where the arms attach to the frame and the big pipe in front pierces the loader arms. On the WL-40, the pipe is boxed in by the arms. I agree with the statement that the WL-40 is a heavier designed loader.


WL40 it is. Idk about being heavier built as the 42's were later and generally went on higher HP tractors, just thinking about the age.

Dad has 2 wl42's, on a 986 and a 4430. The one on the 44 I noticed the other day got the front frame wrapped in new steel. It was it much better shape than the one on the 986 when it was bought used 10 years ago. The 9 has had a loader mounted to it for the past 30 years probably and has not been taken off very many times.

Dad also has a wl30 (narrow front version) which the loader arms pin the same as the 40. Used on a 4020 from the mid 80's until about 10 years ago. That was a tough loader, but only had 95 ponies behind it too..
