In heavy residue it's all about rainfall timing. 1 inch as soon after spraying is optimum. I am convinced it gets tied up and releases into soil thus making it work longer, thus I use a higher rate also. Rainfall is a general non issue for us though. We've run heavy pre's in 200 bu stalks for decades and had great success.
