Subject: RE: Top Die in corn

Iowa
I always noticed it a characteristic of Monsanto corn lines, top die back. Plant health probably is covering up the early signs of anthracnose, how low do you look on the plant as infection is early in plants life? 6208 always has been an ugly plant but really healthy if it made it past the greensnap window. Went to v5 fungicide, tassel and seems like top die back has held off till black layer. Also left dekalb so top die back has been less. The other we are running 250 gdus above normal which can push some issues also, don't know for your geography though. Could be abiotic stress, had some funny looking corn last year and sent it to lab as I've never seen anything like it and was ruled abiotic stress, still don't believe it but could have been.
