Where The Bugs Are
The most severe anthracnose infects corn at small growth say before v5. Anthracnose leaf blight also infects corn but little later in life and more or less climbs from lower leaves to the top. Wet soil and heavy residue if it’s corn in corn makes works. Heavy rains splash the spores up onto plant from the soil. On our farm especially corn on corn it’s been a problem a long time. We have tried v5 apps of fungicide etc. never really worked but what has been working is applying a strobe like quadris or eviction in furrow has worked pretty well. Headline not so much it’s ok but it’s not very soluable or mobile. It’s more suited for foliar application. A year like this anthracnose is pretty common from so much heavy rainfall in my area then you throw an insane amount of tarspot in the mix and wow. Some hybrids are better than others on anthracnose but in wrong conditions none are perfect. For us later season corns seem to do little better.
