SE IL and SW IN | Do not short the potassium in a rye and soy bean situation. Rye does bring some potassium from the subsoil but it uses and ties up as much as 80 pounds. Our low CEC soil‘s cannot feed a robust crop of rye and a good to excellent crop of soy beans. Short the Phosphorus if you must but apply potassium at a full rate.
