Thanks for the response.

I'm pumping from a pond that is in the corner of a pasture out to the middle of the pasture, where the tank will be set. Will then put in cross fencing for paddocks and fence the cows out of the pond (cleaning the pond out right now as cows have been running in it for decades under previous owners).

I probably need to go ahead and use batteries - for 40 pairs, even a thousand gallon tank would get me a day's storage at most.

I will either use a floating pump, or since the pond will be cleaned out in the next few days, I considered setting a post and attaching the pump to it. If I did that, I'd also set a short piece of plastic road tube around the post to keep any future silt away from the pump.
