Static electricity. Maybe even something about the salt making the ground more conductive. Maybe salt making ground more conductive attracting lightning. Lightning doesn’t have to be a huge bolt like we usually see. I’ve seen bark blown off trees by what had to be lightning on a clear blue day. Mowed hay one day came back the next to tedd and the bark was laying on top of the hay several feet from the tree.
