Subject: RE: bushels of apples to gallons of juice

Wisconsin
google says a bushel of apples weighs 48 pounds, so the two gallons is probably close for a typical antique pulverizer and hand cranked screw press. A good homemade press with hydraulic jack and a grinder that produces closer to applesauce consistency will get 70-80% of the weight of the apples in the juice/cider produced, you won't get anywhere near that without the pressure and fine grind. 25% of the weight would be common with the antique style. Two gallons from a 48# bushel would be 1/3.
