Near-north Ontario, French River
The deal at Maidstone was nothing more than a scam... not sure if the processor was involved... who was behind it but was basically 3mil pissed into the wind. .. Then the Indian investor came in with promises to revamp the plant, with capacity to rival Heinz.... I think the government threw money at that proposal too, SMH.. Take one look at the facilities and even an idiot wouldn't back that plan. I had forgotten about Lakeside, but they are extremely small, one grower with 50-75 acres could likely supply them, as they are very much a premium niche product producer. When we used to grow pickles for Heinz, if we filled out contract , Heinz would release us to sell to others. Delivered to Lakeside a few times but they were exceedingly picky on what they wanted... and very small volume so it wasn't worth the effort. Neighbours grow peppers for them.. maybe ship an apple bin ever couple days of hot chili peppers for example.
