Essex County, extreme SW Ontario,
Im not aware of any local pickle plants? I know there was talk of one starting up in Wallaceburg , not sure if anything every became of it though. I too wonder though, how a its possible to produce a jar of pickles, in Indian,, ship it all the way across the ocean , to a local grocer, cheaper than we can do it hear. Yes I get labour is cheap there, but everything is mechanized here,,, their environmental laws are less strict but our yields are higher....... used to grow for Nationwide canning, a small local tomato processor. They told us they could bring in canned tomatoes, and slap a label on the can for less than they were paying for the raw tomatoes here.. ... and we weren't getting rich growing tomatoes either.
