If you ever decide to try another Shark, they do have a number to call if you have problems. I had mine replaced for free (I possibly paid shipping of $15) after having it for two years. I had a problem with another one and they walked me through how to get it to work. My favorite vacuum of all time, however, was an Electrolux upright
