Central Tx | By then, our group had grown to 5 people on motorcycle s. One of the group was from Britain and made shipping arrangements on everyone's behalf to air freight the Motos to Bogota. No big deal there because there's no connecting road.
In Colombia, we were given an agent to contact there. He took us into a room and proceeded to show us all the charges totalled on his white board, truck charge, paperwork charge, warehouse charge, etc . One in the group asked if the motos had arrived in country yet, the agent said they had not, and we all looked at each other and said leave them in Panama, that was just too much money. All the sudden, most charges went away, we got rides to the cargo terminal the next day, and rode the bikes away from the airport.
Some people choose to catch a boat from the Colon Panama port to Cartagena, but the biggest player in that just sold their boat. And it takes a little longer and they usually were more costly.
At the time I think it was US$ 650 to 750 per bike.
On the way back in Manaus, Brazil, we just rode up to the airport and started asking questions. Then we spent a week crating and shipping air into Miami. | |
