The pork thing is for real, the executive order is non-binding along with the pledges made by the auto makers.
It will be interesting if technological advancement can solve the energy density issue in 8 model years, (I believe it is about 13:1, in favor of hydrocarbons). For anything other than light cars the best battery tech today is still woefully behind btu's that gasoline or diesel can provide. 100-200 mi range for a medium/heavy duty truck with payload just isn't going to cut it and the market will favor ICE vehicles. Also, it is going to take electric substations & heavy transmission lines built in suburbs all over to handle the kind of load they want to force on the consumer. I guess time will tell.
