East of Broken Bow | We had a bunch of smoke 5-6 years ago out here. I'd say so far, similar to what we had this year, at least 'here', maybe not quite as much but close.
At the end of they year, yields were a bit under, but close to trend for corn, but WET. Harvest started a good week later, and corn was 23-24 instead of the normal 18-20.
Other than burning a lot of propane to get it dry, it wasn't really much off of 'average'. Corn didn't dry well in the bins without heat, either, because the smoke seemed to hold more moisture in the air. Lots of fog, heavy dews, etc. Then, about halfway through harvest the smoke was gone, and things acted normally, but were glad we started harvest when we did, even though we went through a lot of LP, because the day after we got done with harvest, we got 8 inches of snow, with wind. | |
