Averages don't tell the story here. We've had 15" of rain in the last month where I am, but it's more common for us to maybe get 1.5" in that same time frame. Usually we get more rain in the winters than you guys up north too, much less snow.

Like our APHs, don't really mean much when we never yield that exactly. Either we burn up or beat it.

Our soil is much lighter (generally post oak, not prairie), and we tend to get hotter being further south.

Edit: Yes we usually do better than the western and southern plains, but in comparison to the rest of our state/IA/etc we burn up like you guys don't.
