S Illinois | 40” is good long term because multi year drought doesn’t occur. In a single calendar year not so much. Not sure how productive this 40” are when only 25-35% of that falls in June-Aug. Not sure many want a 2019 planting season, but that’s our normal. 12-15” in Mar-May means shallow rooted crops that burn up at the first dry period.
