East of Broken Bow | I would agree with this. When they added 'processed' meat products, I wondered what the ratio is.
My grandfather LOVED meat. He was well into his 80s, and got a craving for salted pork. Got almost half a hog done that way. His Dr (who was maybe in his 60s at the time) scolded him that it might not be healthy, but knew that he wasn't going to change Grandpa's mind. Grandpa outlived that Dr. He ate lots of red meat, had bacon and eggs or (his preference) salted side pork and eggs for breakfast, lots of beef, a little bread, and whatever vegetables grew in his garden in season. Lived to 96, and less than a month before he died, his mind was probably as sharp as mine at 40, he could read without glasses, and still walked a half mile twice a day. Maybe he was the exception, but IMO, I don't think the red meat did him much harm. | |
