West TN
Humboldt TN here.

The looks are deceiving. Corn will be a good crop but not record breaking. Early weather after planting caused the crop to be uneven. But we’ve had plentiful moisture during grain fill. It should be above average.

Same thing with soybeans. However double crop soybeans are looking excellent where the farmer was able to plant through all the straw of a record wheat crop. Some farmers had their planters set up better than others.

Cotton “looks” great but in reality, it’s going to be a bad year for cotton. It is simply too far behind to make good yield. A lot of cotton started blooming a week or so ago which is 2-3 weeks behind schedule. August 15 is the last effective bloom date for us which means any square that blooms after that date likely want produce a boll that can mature out and open up before first frost. So essentially we’re trying to set our crop in 3 weeks when we need at least 5 to make big yields. We need well above average temperatures in September and early October to try and make a decent yield. And 86 degree days in early August is causing the crop to fall farther behind. Great for corn but bad for cotton
