New London, Wisconsin | I've heard this called the crabs in the bucket theory. East coast fisherman get it but mid westerners like myself needed an explanation.
A I first heard it.
People can be like crabs in a bucket. If the crabs cooperate they can all climb out and succeed. Instead, as each crab tries to climb out of the bucket and escape, another crab pulls it back down. Just the way some people like to pull others back to the level they are used to instead of letting them try things to succeed.
