“These are the times that try men's souls.” | I've had a Holstein milk cow get mastitis , it was a two year old cow. I took her out of the barn and her udder just blowed up and blew out the rear quarter. I gave her a single dose of high powered antibiotic and put her in a pen with some steers and just left her alone. Next time I looked at her and I can't remember the time frame her whole half of udder had fallen off. She healed up and haired over and was a two quartered cow on the left side. I then had her fat as she was being fed with those steers. I then shipped her. I've seen a lot of big uddered cows tear teats off while laying down and getting up off straw packs in the winter. They heal up and can ship them, a few I would keep milking for a while if they still produced acceptable milk. |
