We bought this GE washing machine 10 years ago in Nov. It got to acting up a few days ago so we took it out of the house and replaced it with the old one we had in storage. I had rebuilt the transmission on the old one after it had failed. It wasn't a cheap fix but glad I had it on hand. It was sort of a challenge I guess just to see if I could get it back going. When I opened this newer one up I was surprised to see it doesn't use a transmission like the old ones but is controlled by the motor. Yes I think they should last longer and do a better job of cleaning dirty clothes but is really amazing they can make something so flimsy do what they do. That thing has washed a many a load of dirty work clothes in the last 10 years. I decided to check it out outside today and it's now working. Don't know if something got hung up or what but it didn't want to spin when it quit working. I put it back together and back in storage and will give it anther try if it's needed again.
