Beresford, SD | My family were sharecroppers in the Otto IA area around the turn of the century. Came to the Alcester/Beresford area pre depression, went to the Milnor North Dakota area as sharecroppers for a few years just as the depression set in.....came back to the Beresford area as sharecroppers through the depression......my great grandfather and his brother both bought a 1/4 and an 80 (480 acres) at the tail end of the depression for 1/2 of my annual cash rent...gramps and cousins left for the War, when they returned everything was paid for with cash to buy 2 additional 1/4’s, my dad lives on one of those 1/4’s and I rent the other from a distant cousin...proud to farm all those farms today........Swedish....Yep. 1/2 blood!
