| The "red eye" is a motion detector - you can use the mouse on any surface, doesn't need to be on a mousepad.
The jumpy actions may indicate either a dirty lens - clean the little window near the red-eye; Otherwise, since it's wired, the connector may be loose or need to be re-seated. Since it's a wired mouse, we may presume it's connector is one of those nine-pin with the two screws on the outer edges. Tighten those screws snug. | |
