Averages are good to know in general, but if your trying to make management decisions that have real consequences, avg is worthless imho.
Really need to measure your own situation. A probe in the row is extremely useful. An accurate answer is going to depend on active root depth, o.m., plant available water. Maybe your going backwards already? Maybe you have 5 days left before truly going backwards?
This is where cropmetrics system stands our. You can get good data coupled with good modeling and make timely decisions and actions....or you can guess and hope.
