Subject: RE: Iowa drought?

2012 we had corn I combined all afternoon with an 8 row head. Didn't get the hopper full, or even up to the window.
1983 I had close to 150 acres of corn that didn't have enough moisture to germinate until the third week in June. I rented the stalks out for more money than the corn we harvested. We had rain on the end rows, the rest was toast.
That means we do have them. Those were pretty much total loss's. Others not so bad.
This is the first time I have seen corn at v5 turn silver with parts of the leaf brown and crispy and not be spray damage. That was close to the shed. Possibly planted a little wet there in the shade.
As others said. An inch of rain on every Friday for 3 weeks would help. Then after that an inch on Monday and Friday that both come easy would give a heck of a crop.
That being said we are close to where the corn decides what it will yield. Not good when the corn is silver after noon.
