Subject: RE: Black raspberries are ripe!

nw NC
Never heard of that, so I just read about it. Hope they do not infest this area. There are some strawberry growers in the region , but I am not aware of any known problem with those fruit flies and larva infesting strawberries. Strawberry season is finished here as of about ten days ago.

Black raspberries grow in the wild here and until I planted the improved varieties 15 years ago, all we had were wild native ones. They actually are the most flavorful but the berries are smaller and low yielding. My wife, being from Minnesota, knew of red raspberries and picked red berries from the wild in Minnesota. I bought some reds from nurseries and planted them. They grew for two years but apparently our climate was not satisfactory for reds and they died out .
