NE Iowa | I got tired of trying to make dry hay and went to mostly silage for my beef herd. For tonnage per acre corn silage can't be beat. I feed about half corn silage and the other half being either alfafa grass mix silage or ryelage. I think planting rye after corn harvest, chopping rye next May, and then planting beans makes the lowest cost beef cow feed. I have no TMR and just feed with a skid steer bucket. I do keep a bale of cornstalks in front of them if they want something dry to chew on. | |
