Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | One trick that helps with any size flange mount starter, is to start that "tough" bolt first when installing a starter.
Install that bolt a few turns by hand, then pull the starter out until the bolt head hits the starter flange. That gives you more room to get the socket, U joint, extension on the bolt head. Turn that bolt in first until just snug and the starter is pulled to the housing. Then install and tighten all three bolts.
When removing the starter, remove the easy pair first, then back the starter out as you loosen the "tough" bolt. That helps keep the bolt from jamming up the socket, U joint, extension as you back that bolt out.
