Subject: JD 1790 - Moving the hitch over 7.5 inches?

Southeastern, IL
We bought a 1790 16-32 row planter. The hitch has 2 hole settings for the planter. One is down the center and one is offset 7.5 inches. What would be the reason for moving the hitch over vs just changing the markers differently on one side vs the other? I realize that with the 32 row if i move the hitch over the planter will have the same distance on one side vs the other. I cant see having to move the hitch just to balance the draft difference of one row. I have also seen the same hitch on 31 rows, and that is what i dont understand the need to move it on the 31 row planter. Must be something i am not thinking about. Thanks
